Joe Nosef serving on Lieutenant Governor’s “Commission for a New Mississippi”

In early 2009 Joe Nosef was appointed by Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant to serve on his “Commission for a New Mississippi.”  The Commission was formed by the Lieutenant Governor at the request of Governor Haley Barbour, and it will focus its study on the efficiency and effectiveness of state government.  Later this month, the Commission plans to formally issue a report centered on the budgeting process in Mississippi and how it can be made more effective. 

The Commissioners include:

  • Chairman J.K. (Hoopy) Stringer Jr., former state fiscal officer.
  • John Arledge, banker and former aide to Govs. Haley Barbour and Kirk Fordice.
  • Jim Barksdale, Netscape founder and businessman.
  • Paul Breazeale, CPA.
  • Robert Clark, former speaker pro tempore of the Miss. House of Representatives.
  • Kay Cobb, former state Supreme Court Justice.
  • Mike Espy, former member of Congress and Clinton administration Secretary of Agriculture.
  • Rusty Fortenberry, attorney and former Commissioner of Public Safety.
  • Joe Nosef, attorney and Former Chief Counsel to Governor Barbour & Chief of Staff to Lt. Governor Bryant.
  • Billy Powell, businessman.
  • Carolyn Shanks, Enexus Energy Corporation executive.
  • Andy Taggart, attorney and Former Chief of Staff to Governor Fordice & member of Madison County Board of Supervisors.
  • Don Taylor, former director of the state Dept. of Human Services.
  • Forest Thigpen, Mississippi Center for Public Policy.
  • Blake Wilson, Mississippi Economic Council.
