Betty Ruth Fox speaks at Deepwater Horizon; Legal Challenges & Environmental Consequences

Watkins & Eager attorney, Betty Ruth Fox, discussed the legal challenges and environmental consequences of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill at the recent Bankruptcy and Environmental Group Litigation conference sponsored by the Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law Section of the Mississippi Bar; the Environmental Section of the Alabama State Bar; and the Environmental Law Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association. The conference was held on July 30, 2010 at the Beau Rivage Casino & Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Additionally, Betty Ruth recently participated in a panel discussion with representatives from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the United States Environmental Protection Agency at the 79th Annual Mississippi Municipal League Conference held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi, where Betty Ruth discussed liability and bankruptcy issues with respect to brownfield properties.

Betty Ruth joined Watkins & Eager in 2009, where her primary practice areas are Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights; and Toxic Tort, Chemical and Environmental Law. Before joining the firm, Betty Ruth served as a Staff Attorney for the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, with responsibilities for Civil Environmental Enforcement; and as a Trial Attorney for the Trustee Program of the United States Department of Justice, with responsibilities for Civil Bankruptcy Enforcement.
